Chimps & Cigars
Thursday April 13, 2006
Here’s a story that I just couldn’t pass up. The world’s oldest chimp is an avid cigar aficionado. Cheeta the Chimp just celebrated his 74th birthday on April 10, 2006. This is the same monkey the starred in all those Tarzan movies with Johnny Weismuller back in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Apparently, Cheeta loved to drink beer and smoke cigars, but his new caretaker cut him off a few years back, because the caretaker himself didn’t like to smoke or drink. What a horrible life, being the world’s oldest chimp and not being able to enjoy yourself. I never thought that a site about cigars would be referencing the National Geographic, but here we go. Happy birthday, Cheeta!

Apparantly the smoking and drinking didn’t shorten Cheeta’s life at all. All the more proof that enjoying some of life’s finest pleasures, like a good cigar and a cold beer, may not only improve the quality of life but the length of life as well. Happy Birthday, Cheeta. Many more!
My grandmother and mother lived down the street from the Weismuller’s before Johnny became a nationally known figure.
While visiting my folks we taked about that and wondered what ever happened to Cheeta. Love to get his address and send him a smoke.
Here’s the address, but Westfall will probably toss the cigar, or smoke it himself:
