Smoking Ban in Ontario, Canada
Tuesday May 30, 2006
Ontario's ban on smoking indoors, effective May 31, 2006, is another milestone in the trend to eventually ban smoking in public everywhere. When I lived in Cleveland, I occasionally visited the casino in Windsor, which is expected to lose business because of the ban. American smokers who live in the area will now probably drive to Detroit when they want to gamble. However, it is just a matter of time before other jurisdictions adopt bans against smoking in public. So far, the most restrictive ban against smoking in public, both indoors and outdoors, took effect in Calabasas, California, on March 17, 2006. Will your city be next?
