Cigars, cigarettes, and other tobacco products may be getting more expensive in California next year, depending on whether Proposition 86 is passed in November. The purpose of the proposed tax increase is to reduce tobacco consumption by making tobacco products more expensive. According to an article in USA Today, the tax increase (if adopted) would force small cigar and pipe shops out of business in the state, as consumers would make their purchases on the internet or across state lines.
