Most Expensive Cigar in the World

By , About.com Guide   October 19, 2006

Follow me on:

The cost is only $440 per cigar, and they only come in boxes of 40. After you do the math, you can see why nobody has smoked one, yet. According to Reuters, the new limited edition Cuban Cohiba Behike cigar was just introduced today in Spain. Only 4,000 of these cigars were produced, so if someone wants to send me a couple, that still leaves 3,998 cigars for the rest of the world. On second thought, I should probably wait until after the trade embargo with Cuba is lifted. Another dream up in smoke!

“Black Dragon’s unheard-of $1,150-a-cigar price and extreme scarcity should certainly open five pocketbooks. For us mere mortals, however, he says top-quality, highly-rated Gurkha cigars are available for as little as $12.95 retail.”
The Black Dragon that is more readily available to the public is an entirely different cigar.

High priced cigars;
Who will really give a damn how much the most expensive cigars cost since neither one of these are worth it anyway!

The most expensive cigar in the world is not the best cigar in the world, only the one with the highest price. What is it they say about a fool and his money?

The ‘band’ plays on even after the smoke is gone!

Bands O’ Gold company takes your band from around a cigar and transforms it into a gold ring. This is a signature piece of jewelry that defines a cigar enthusiast’s status, style, and favorite brand of cigar. It is great looking wearable jewelry artwork!

The highly personalized rings, made by Bands O’ Gold, using original cigar bands, are the work of master jeweler Jack Weinraub, the company’s founder. Mr. Weinraub, who possess an extensive background in manufacturing jewelry, is capable of delivering a one-of-a-kind, handmade 14k-gold ring in about 4 weeks. A clear ceramic is applied that bonds a cigar band to
a ring’s surface, thereby permanently leaving the intricate artwork from a cigar band perfectly intact.

Smoking a great cigar is a special event by itself, but when paired with a great libation, we can understand why it is hard to find the words to explain the experience. Here is another pairing that won’t break the bank.

Well said Steve,
I have often tried to explain the simple reality of Gurkha cigars to many inexperienced people, they just don’t get it. Gurkha is a prime example of excellent marketing for a mediocre product(just my opinion). However, I have to give them credit for doing such a great job with the marketing, they have built up a great name.

Can anyone here say why a cigar would be as pricey as some of the models listed above? Thanks in advance.

(19) Robert says:

Steve and David, I thought I’d chime in on your thoughts towards Gurkha. I think they make tremendous cigars. A few months ago I purchased a sampler through an auction prior to being exposed to their marketing. My local tobacconist doesn’t carry them, I don’t read trade mags, and it was my first online cigar experience. Needless to say I was not influenced by marketing (other than the pictures on the auction) and after smoking each of the 8 cigars in the sampler I could easily say they compare well to every other brand I have smoked and often times compare favorably in construction to nearly anything.

I have now been exposed, through doing research online, to their marketing and I think it is over the top but words and pictures can’t take away from a quality smoke. There are 3 Gurkha’s in my top 10 and I NEVER miss an opportunity to try one of their cigars. Perhaps rather than trying to explain and influence people on your thoughts on Gurkha, you should let them try the cigars and form their own opinions. Or, as the person who taught me to trust my pallet did; give them cigars with no rings, have them tell you about them, rate them, and then show them which smoke was which.

(21) MAC says:

Well lets see the process of making a cigar of that quality is really important. And also the items used to make such a cigar as well. So let take the Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve for example. one of the main things that make this cigar so pricy is that it uses a whole bottle of King Loui XIII congac which is made from over 1,200 different congac blended together. And one bottle its self cost around $500 for 50ml. Also the blend of the different tabaccos they use are really unique. Most people dont understand how to enjoy a cigar of this quality. I myself have bought 2 of them and smoked one when my first grandchild was born. And i would have to say it was way worth the price. I can only imagine what the second one taste like now since its been sitting in my humidor for the past ten years. I will say there are cigars that are not worth their price and should never be made but I as well have smoked Gurkha for a while now and have never had a bad cigar from them. I will also say that another cigar to smoke is from CAO called the Vision. They are a beautiful cigar both in looks and taste. I know not many will agree with me but I wanted to let everyone know my personal opinion.
