Biggest Cigar Company a Takeover Target?

Altadis S.A. is the largest cigar company in the world and the fifth largest cigarette maker, but it is not the largest tobacco company. The New York Times reported that the world's fourth largest cigarette maker, Imperial Tobacco (located in Britain), has made a bid to take over Altadis. Altadis S.A., which is based in Spain, is the world's fourth largest tobacco company, and owns the brands for many popular cigars such as the premium hand-made Montecristo and machine-made Dutch Masters.
