Cigar Tax NOT Dead!
Thursday October 25, 2007
The U.S. House is meeting on October 25 to vote again on a slightly revised SCHIP bill, in an attempt to gain enough votes to make the legislation veto proof. If passed, this bill would increase the federal excise tax on cigars by up to 6,000%. Contrary to what you may have read on other cigar websites, the House's failure to garner enough votes on October 18, to override the President's veto, did not put an end to attempts by Congress to fund an expanded State Children's Health Insurance Program, by raising taxes on cigars by an exorbitant amount. Stay tuned for further updates.
UPDATE: The House passed the slightly revised SCHIP legislation by a vote of 265-142, which was less than the two-thirds majority needed to withstand another Presidential veto. Therefore, a compromise must still be reached before November 16, or another temporary extension of the current program must be approved. Again, stay tuned. This is not over by a long shot.

Everyone better start stocking up on cigars now, because once the democrats take the presidency, the tax will go through as there won’t be a veto! The only way to stop this is with your vote!!
If the House gets a 2/3 majority vote for SCHIP, the cigar tax will take effect on 1-1-08, long before the November 2008 election. Better stock up before the end of this year!
Now is the time not to stockpile, but to get off your asses and DO something. Find out how the congressmen in your state are voting, and let them know how you feel!
Whoa, relax! It’s not over yet. We can still encourage our representatives to vote down this stupidity! I agree with BS - it’s not the time to stockpile it’s the time to take some real action. Don’t let them win - do something!
