Dr. Mitch Fadem's review of the Royal Jamaica Oro Rojo Toro cigar is the most unflattering cigar review on this website, and is the latest installment in our month long series of surprising and/or negative cigar reviews. In fact, the review is so bad that Dr. Fadem broke the mold of our format for writing cigar reviews. To see what I mean, read Mitch's full review of the Jamaica Oro Rojo Toro cigar.

I smoked my first Oro Rojo yesterday, and Dr. Mitch is wrong–it’s WORSE than he describes it. Mine was not only badly constructed, but on closer inspection appeared to be both moldy AND stale–you have to TRY to make a cigar this poor.

I have to be honest and say that the negative or unfavorable reviews are often more useful than the positive ones. There is never enough time to smoke all the good ones, but staying away from the bad makes it easier.

Thanks, Dr. Mitch.

I was shocked by the reviews of the RJ Oro Rojo. I have smoked at least three boxes of the robusto size and never had an example that was less than outstanding. The construction was nearly perfect. No hard or soft spots. The draw was easy with just the resistance associated with a well made cigar. The cigar smokes evenly from front to back and seldom needs a relight. Initially, removing the foil required some experimentation but is easy if you hold the unwrapped portion and gently twist the cover which removes the foil and outer band with no damage to the lovely wrapper. Maybe the problem was associated with their size. My cigars have always been in excellent condition so far as humidity is concerned. Perhaps the vendor of the unacceptable examples was less than professional with their stock.

I just finished A Royal Jamaica Oro Rojo and I have to disagree with all the bad reviews!
I found it easy to unwrap and easy to cut.
The draw was smooth, the wrapper consistent. I found it mild to the taste and overall a pleasant smoke. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another!

After just finishing my first Royal Jamaica Oro Rojo, I would strongly disagree with any bad review!

The build quality was not legendary but certainly fitting of a premium cigar. The burn was very consistent from start to finish and the ash held in a very shapely manner. This was no doubt in part due to the near perfect draw of the cigar with just the correct amount of resistance.

This cigar is certainly a mild cigar but is very pleasant to the taste. Without too much experience noting all the nuances of the flavor, I can simply say that the flavor was consistent throughout and never produced any harsh moments.

I did not have any unwrapping issues whatsoever with this particular cigar.

I wouldn’t hesitate and will most likely try another of these cigars to solidify my opinion. I would recommend one give them a try!

I smoked my first Jamaica Gold Corona July 2009 and the next day I ordered a box. Everyone has their right to an opinion and mine is There a great tasting Stick! I’m sure I may run across a bad constructed one. Murrphy’s Law…..

I have been smoking cigars for a very long time and I must say, I have had some bad to very bad cigars in my time. I tried my first Royal Jamaica Oro Rojo this past week and really enjoyed it. The cigar had a very even draw and burn really well. I would highly request to any true cigar smoker…….

I smoked by first RJ Oro Rojo last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn’t need to relight, burned evenly throughout. Nice taste, full body, and slightly nutty. Went well with a 10 yr Tawny Port. I’d buy them again.

Just finished a Oro Rojo robusto that I received in a sampler package. It was great. Surprised to find these poor reviews. I was searching for a source for a whole box.
