— General Cigar announced that Daniel Núñez, president and chief operating officer, will retire during the second quarter of 2009, but will remain on as an advisor to the company and its parent company, Swedish Match. Upon Daniel’s retirement from General Cigar, Dan Carr, currently the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, will succeed Mr. Nunez as chief operating officer.
Altadis USA announced their "Smoke and Vote" promotion, which starts now and runs through early November. Customers will receive one free Altadis U.S.A. cigar when they purchase three at participating retailers. These cigars include such highly rated and sought-after brands as Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, Trinidad, Saint Luis Rey, Quintero and many more. In addition, at select participating retailers, customers can enter a raffle to win an American Heritage humidor valued at over $750.

— Also from Altadis, Montecristo Classic cigars were front and center at one of L.A.’s most talked about entertainment events, the live musical stage version of TV’s award-winning drama, Mad Men. On Monday, October 20th, audience members entered the velvet covered club at the El Rey Theatre to the music of a live big band led by Mad Men’s original composer, David Carbonera. As video screens projected scenes from the TV show, retro-dressed waitresses served cocktails and Montecristo Classic cigars.
CAO has been selected as the exclusive cigar sponsor to the Hinder record release party to be held at the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa in the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on October 30. The multi-platinum recording artists best known for their single “Lips of an Angel” will be celebrating the forthcoming release of their new album, “Take It To The Limit.”
