After the FDA banned flavored cigarettes last month (except for menthol), it is now only a matter of time before they turn their attention to flavored cigars. There is a fine line between cigarettes and certain types of little cigars, and in the past, some tobacco companies have tried to market their cigarettes as little cigars to take advantage of the less stringent regulations and lower tax rates that applied to cigars. Now, a couple of cigarette companies are marketing their products as flavored cigars, which could result in a ban on some types of flavored cigars. The U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce is now investigating. If some flavored cigars are banned as a result, will all flavored cigars eventually be banned? If you enjoy flavored cigars, the time to stock up is now!

I would think this is more of an issue with the companies breaking the definitions of what a full cigar is. We’re talking about govt here, so we’re obviously trying to apply logic to what maybe an illogical situation. But, again, I think the companies mislabeling cigarettes is their own legal issue and shouldn’t portend on places like Drew Estates, etc. However, I would be interested to know what manufacturers are labeling their cigarettes as little cigars/cigars.
The companies currently under investigation are Kretek International and Cheyenne International.
