Scotch and Cigars

By November 12, 2011

Follow me on:

Scotch is one of the most preferred drinks to accompany a cigar. Scotch can be an acquired taste, as can cigars. I seldom drink Scotch without a cigar, but Macallan 12-year single malt is one Scotch that I can enjoy sans cigar. I recently picked up a bottle of Chivas Regal 18-year blended Scotch for a couple of bucks more than the Macallan. The Chivas 18 was not as smooth, but was fuller and bolder than the Macallan, making for a great companion to my full-bodied cigar. As with any beverage, food or cigar, the ones that you will like the most are a matter of personal choice. But with prices just over $40 per bottle, why not enjoy them both?

You totally left out Bourbon and wine. Being from the great state of Kentucky there is nothing better than, a glass of Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek or a glass of Kendall Jackson Merlot , and of course, one of our great cigars.

Our list of drinks to accompany cigars is not all inclusive. Regarding the Macallan 18-year, it had better be awsesome for $150 per bottle!

We recently completed pairings of the Panacea Cigars and Eades Double Malt, the first offerings of the new Virginia Distillery, http://www.vadistillery.com . They currently have three, a Highland that we paired with our White Label Corojo, a Speyside that is paired with our Black Label Maduro and an Islay that is paired with our Red Label Habano. We will be doing some joint events in the near future.

We have also paired our cigars with the wines of a number of wineries. The right pairing can enhance the flavor of both. As an example this is our pairing with a the 2008 Pinot Gris of Unicorn Winery, located in Amissville, VA:

Unicorn 2008 Pinot Gris
Aromas of rose petals, apple blossoms & pears make this perfect with your favorite summer salad, outstanding with seafood or creamy pasta dishes.

Paired with The Panacea Green Grande
Dominican with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, Dominican Habano binder and Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper has a clean, crisp grassy flavor. The bigger ring of the Grande mellows the Broadleaf pairing it nicely with the delicacy of the Pinot Gris.
