La Gloria Cubana Serie N cigars were released by General Cigar in October 2010. The cigars are made with Ecuadorian Sumatra wrappers and a blend of filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. Serie N cigars are available in four sizes within a price range of $5.95 to $7.00 per cigar. The size sampled for this review was named the JSB, measuring 5½ inches in length with a ring gauge of 54. Flavor
My Serie N JSB cigar started off with a rich earthy flavor with hints of cocoa. There was a slight peppery aftertaste, which faded after about five to ten minutes into the smoke. I would say that the cigar was close to being full bodied for the first 20 minutes, then it tamed down into the medium-to-full range. Not as enjoyable but fuller than La Gloria's Obelisco line of cigars, and less potent but more enjoyable than the brand's Artesanos de Tabaqueros cigars. Serie N cigars are recommended for more experienced smokers, and are not the best choice for beginners.
Draw and Construction
The La Gloria Serie N had a slightly tight draw, but it was not too restrictive. The burn was slow and relatively even, but one touch-up light was needed after about 35 minutes to keep the cigar burning evenly. However, no relights were required, and the cigar held a long and firm ash. It took me an hour to smoke the cigar down to 2½ inches remaining.
Value
La Gloria Serie N JSB cigars are available in beautifully packaged boxes of 24 cigars for around $122, which works out to an average of just over $5 per stick. When purchased as singles, the price is about $1 more per cigar. This is a reasonable price for a rich and full cigar that is pretty well made. Try a single before committing to an entire box, although a box of these cigars would make a great gift for someone who enjoys a fuller bodied cigar.
