The Flor de Gonzalez Cigar Company was established in 1993 by Arnaldo Gonzalez. Flor de Gonzalez 15 Aniversario cigars are made in Miami with Ecuadorian binders and wrappers, and a blend of filler tobaccos from Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Panama. The wrapper is a Connecticut-seed Desflorado leaf grown on the company's own plantation in Ecuador. The Robusto size that I sampled measured five inches in length with a ring gauge of 50. These are limited edition cigars, and may not always be available. You can read more about these cigars and the company at flordegonzalez.com.
Flavor
Flor de Gonzalez 15 Aniversario cigars are advertised as being full-bodied, but I found them to be much closer to medium. The cigars have a naturally sweet and smooth tobacco flavor, without any hint of bitterness. After about 20-25 minutes, the texture of the smoke becomes noticeably creamier. I enjoyed the flavor of this cigar throughout the entire duration of the smoke.
Draw and Construction
The Flor de Gonzalez 15 Aniversario Robusto was very well made and is sealed at the head with a triple cap. The cigar had a great draw, burned evenly and held a long ash. No relights or touch-ups were required. I smoked this cigar for 45 minutes down to about 1½ inches remaining.
Value
For a such a high quality and enjoyable cigar made in Miami, the price of $135 to $150 for a box of 20 Robustos is a very good value. In another review that was published in 2011, I sampled the Gonzalez Series in the Flor de Gonzalez brand, but enjoyed this 15 Aniversario line much better. Give them a try. At an average box price of $6.75 to $7.50 per stick, you will not be disappointed, but get them while they are available.
