The Gurkha Connecticut Reserve Robusto Number 4 cigar is not really a Robusto-sized cigar, since the cigar measures six inches long with a
ring gauge of 50 (making it a Toro). Anyway, the cigar is made in the Dominican Republic and has a Connecticut shade
wrapper.
Flavor
This particular Gurkha cigar was medium flavored, and had an average tobacco taste. I was expecting a bit more in the way of flavor, but the cigar did not deliver. I have smoked Gurkha cigars in the past, and was usually pleasantly surprised by their taste. Perhaps I was just expecting too much this time.Draw and Construction
The cigar had a good draw and an even burn, but the Connecticut wrapper leaf used on this cigar was thin and somewhat fragile. Therefore, I did not attempt to remove the rather large band until there were about three inches left. This resulted in a few small tears, which soon caused the wrapper to start unraveling. Unless a cigar tastes bad, I like to continue smoking most cigars down to about two inches. But in this case, a construction issue prevented that from happening.Value
When purchased by the box or in a package of ten, these cigars cost about $5 each. Individual cigars will cost more, as usual. This is not a bad price for a cigar with Gurkha's good reputation, but based on the flavor and construction of the particular stick that I had smoked, they are not worth that price.
