Punch cigars are made by the General Cigar Company (a subsidiary of Swedish Match) in Honduras with Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican filler tobaccos, and Ecuadorian Sumatra wrappers. The Double Corona measures 6 ¾ inches long with a ring gauge of 48. Punch has been one of my favorite brands of cigars for some time. Based on my experience with this Double Corona, I think that Punch's regular line of cigars is even better than it was several years ago. This is in contrast to my review of a Punch Grand Cru cigar, which may have slipped a bit, in my opinion.

Flavor

Punch cigars are considered by some to be full bodied. Although the Punch Double Corona was definitely full flavored, it was not overpowering. I would consider this cigar to be medium in strength. Not a cigar for a beginner, but an advanced beginner should have no problem enjoying this cigar. The taste is somewhat toasty, with a little sweetness and a hint of spice. The smoke really had a smooth texture, and was extremely enjoyable from start to finish. I enjoyed this stick all the way down to 2 inches remaining. In fact, I enjoyed this cigar so much that I purchased a second Double Corona before publishing this review. However, I did not age the cigar for five months as I did the first stick, and the taste was not quite as mellow and enjoyable. Thus, to experience maximum pleasure from this particular cigar, let it sit in your humidor for a few months before firing it up.

Draw and Construction

The cigar had a nice easy draw, which provided a good volume of smoke. The burn was even (despite slightly windy conditions), and the cigar did not require any relights or touch up lights. I smoked this cigar for an hour, and did not experience any construction issues to negatively impact my enjoyment of this cigar.

Value

A box of 25 cigars should cost around $75, which averages out to $3 per stick. If purchased in a five-pack or as a single, the cost will be $4 or more per cigar. The Punch Double Corona is an excellent cigar, and is a very good value, in my opinion. The cigar has a great flavor, is very well made, and has a price of only $3 to $4 per stick. Also, consider the generous size of the Double Corona. All these factors add up to one great value. I recommend the Punch Double Corona cigar.
