Saint Luis Rey (SLR) Cigars are made by Altadis in Honduras, with Honduran, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, and Nicaraguan binder and wrapper tobacco leafs. The Rothchilde is a Robusto sized cigar, measuring 5 inches long with a ring gauge of 54.
Flavor
Saint Luis Rey is a medium-to-full flavor cigar, with a very rich taste. The cigar is not at all overpowering in strength, yet maintains a consistent rich taste throughout the length of the stick. My first impression after lighting up this cigar was WOW! I swore that I was smoking a super premium cigar, and not a modestly priced stick. The woodsy flavor and creamy texture of the smoke combined to make this cigar one of the best cigars that I have tasted in some time.
Draw and Construction
The cigar was very well made, the draw was excellent, the burn even, and the cigar did not require any relights. There were not any issues with the construction of this cigar to hamper my enjoyment of this most excellent stogie. Although there were some veins in the dark natural Nicaraguan wrapper, the appearance of the cigar did not affect its burn, draw, or flavor.
Value
It is rare to find a cigar that smokes like a super premium at very a modest price. This cigar is available in the neighborhood of $2 to $3 per stick. If entered in a blind taste test with several super premium cigars, this stick would not receive the lowest score. Therefore, I strongly recommend the SLR Rothchilde cigar. At such a modest price, you cannot be disappointed. However, there is a very good chance that you will actually be delighted.
