Power cigars are made by Felipe Gregorio in the Dominican Republic. Aged Piloto Cubano and Nicaraguan
filler tobaccos were specially blended inside a Cuban-seed Costa Rican
wrapper to create the company's limited edition 15th anniversary cigar. The No. 2 Torpedo
size/shape that I smoked measured 6.3 inches in length with a
ring gauge of 54.
Flavor
Judging by the name alone, one might think that a cigar named Power would be a full flavor/full strength cigar that would knock anyone on their derriere (pardon my French). What I experienced was quite the contrary. The torpedo size/shape that I smoked was mild-to-medium, and had a peppery flavor with a dry aftertaste. The flavor was not bad, but not good enough to be what I would consider special or memorable. However, the taste was somewhat unique in that the peppery flavor was more noticeable than in most other cigars that are comparable in strength.Draw and Construction
The cigar was well made, had a great draw and an even burn, but did require one relight during the 45 minutes that it took me to smoke it down to two inches remaining. The cigar had a good look and feel, and there were not any issues with its construction to impair my enjoyment of this smoke.Value
Since I picked up this cigar at a cigar event, I was surprised to discover its price after I had already smoked the cigar. A box of 26 Power No. 2 Torpedos will set you back about $280, or almost $11 per stick, and that's when purchased by the box. Expect to pay considerably more for a single stick, if you can find one. Although the cigar is made with special tobaccos that are triple-fermented and aged for 12 years, the end result does not justify the price of a cigar that I would only recommend to rich beginners who are looking for some extra flavor without having to risk smoking a cigar that might be too potent for their undeveloped palates. Experienced smokers can pass on this one, regardless of your economic profile.
