Torano Exodus 1959 Silver Cigar

The original Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 cigar has a gold band, and was previously reviewed on this website. The silver edition of their Exodus 1959 series is a completely different cigar, made in Honduras with a blend of filler tobaccos from Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico. The cigar uses a binder from Costa Rica, and a Criollo wrapper from Nicaragua. The size that I smoked for this review was the Grand Corona, which measures 6 1/8 inches in length with a ring gauge of 46. The cigar is aptly named "Corona Grande".

Flavor

The silver edition of the Exodus 1959 series is considered to have a fuller body than the original Exodus, but I found my Corona Grande to be closer to a medium-bodied stick. The cigar is not quite as flavorful as the original gold series, but it is still a good tasting cigar. Initially, the cigar had a smooth rich flavor, with just a hint of spice and sweetness. After about 15 minutes, the spice became more noticeable, but still nowhere close to being intimidating.

Draw and Construction

Like all Torano cigars that I've smoked, the Exodus 1959 Silver was very well made, and had an excellent draw. The cigar did not burn very fast, and held a long ash. The burn was even, and did not require any relights. However, I did give the cigar a couple of touch-up lights, just to keep the burn perfectly even. It took me an hour to smoke the cigar down to just one inch remaining, indicative of both its good taste and construction (I usually smoke most cigars down to two inches remaining).

Value

A box of Corona Grande cigars was priced at about $112. The prices of Torano Exodus 1959 Silver cigars are not too much different from the original Exodus 1959 line. However, they are not directly comparable in price because both lines are not available in the same sizes. Since the difference in price is not a major issue, it is really a matter of personal preference as to which series you will prefer. I find the original gold line to be a bit more enjoyable than the silver series, but either way, you can't go wrong.
