Hoyo de Tradicion cigars are a unique line of the General Cigar Company's Hoyo de Monterrey brand. The cigars are made in Honduras with Honduran wrappers and a blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Dominican filler tobaccos. The box pressed cigar that I smoked for this review was a Robusto size called the Epicure. The cigar measured 5 ¼ inches long with a ring gauge of 50.
Flavor
The rich and smooth tobacco flavor of my Epicure cigar also tasted very fresh, with just a hint of natural tobacco sweetness. I would consider these cigars to be mild-to-medium, but the manufacturer rates them as medium bodied. Regardless, the cigar was nowhere close to being overpowering, and would make a great choice for beginner cigar smokers. This cigar was not very complex, but very enjoyable and consistent in flavor throughout the duration of the smoke.
Draw and Construction
The Hoyo de Tradicion was well made, had an excellent draw, and a somewhat even burn that required only one touch-up light during the duration of the smoke. No relights were required. It took me about 45 to 50 minutes to smoke the cigar down to two inches remaining.
Value
A box of 25 Hoyo de Tradicion Epicure cigars will cost just over $100, which works out to just over $4 per stick. When purchased as singles, the price will be somewhat higher. This is a fair price for a very good tasting mild-to-medium cigar. Although other mild and mild-to-medium cigars can be found with lower price tags, the enjoyable flavor of the Hoyo de Tradicion makes them worth a bit more than many of those el cheapo brands.
