La Aurora cigars are made in the Dominican Republic, and are distributed by Miami Cigar & Company. The Aurora blend consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan
filler tobaccos with an African Cameroon
wrapper. The Maduro is made with Dominican Corojo filler tobaccos with a Brazilian Sun Grown wrapper. For this review, I smoked one of each in the Robusto
size, which measures five inches long with
ring gauge of 50.
Flavor
The La Aurora Robusto having the natural Cameroon wrapper was a mild-to-medium smoke, while the Maduro was more medium-to-full. The natural started off with a slightly bitter taste, but quickly improved to provide a very smooth and creamy smoke. The Maduro had a sweeter and somewhat richer flavor, but I did not detect any bitterness until I was almost finished with the cigar. These are two different cigars, but I enjoyed both to the same degree, and give both of these cigars the same rating.Draw and Construction
Both cigars were well-made, had good draws, even burns, and held a long ash. No relights or touch-ups were required. It took me 40 to 45 minutes to smoke each cigar down to two inches remaining. I recommend removing the additional "Maduro" label from the Maduro cigar before lighting up, if you want to smoke it down to two inches.Value
La Aurora Robustos are available in boxes of 25 for less than $80, but the Maduro's are typically priced about $10 more per box. The cigars are also available in a variety of sampler packs. There is not a whole lot more to say about these cigars. They are decent sticks at a decent price, but nothing to get too excited about. Try them in a sampler pack, or when they are on sale (sometimes for as low as $50 per box - a great bargain at a couple of bucks per stick).
