In March 2009, Miami Cigar and Company announced the release of a special limited edition cigar in celebration of the company's 20th anniversary. The cigar was named after Miami Cigar's founder, and was aptly called the Nestor Miranda Special Selection 20 Anniversario. Initially, the cigar was shipped to only 100 select tobacconists, and was available in only one size called the Danno, measuring a formidable 7 inches in length with a ring gauge of 56. The cigar was available in a choice of two wrappers, either a Habano Rosado (medium) or Habano Oscuro (full bodied). These cigars are made in Esteli, Nicaragua by Pepin Garcia, of Tabacelera Garcia, with select Nicaraguan tobaccos. By June 12, 2009, the cigars were available at 500 cigar retailers across the United States, in time to celebrate an unique Miami Cigar promotional event labeled as "National Nestor Miranda Cigar Day".

Flavor

The initial flavors can be best described as a blast of pepper and sweet spice, which were very intense for about the first five minutes. The flavors then began to settle down into a creamy smoke with much less pepper, but more of a medium spicy taste. As the cigar continued to be smoked, the spice became less noticeable, still making for an enjoyable medium-bodied smoke, all the way down to the last two inches of the stick.

Draw and Construction

The cigar was very well made, and had a great draw which delivered an enormous volume of rich and dense smoke. For the most part, the cigar burned evenly and did not require any relights, but it did go out three times at 20-25 minute intervals after initially being ignited. Surprisingly, after the third relight at the 1:05 hour mark, the cigar remained lit until I put it down with two inches remaining, after a total smoke time of an amazing one hour and forty-five minutes.

Value

The recommended retail price of a Nestor Miranda 20 Anniversario Danno cigar is $9.00 per stick. That may sound a bit steep for an average cigar, but the Danno is anything but average. Only light-up one of these cigars if you have almost two hours available to enjoy it without interruption. A Danno will give you the same amount of smoke time as two good size (Toro) cigars, but you may feel more like you smoked three cigars by the time you are finished with just one of these monsters. Therefore, I recommend Danno cigars only to experienced smokers, and only when there is plenty of smoking time to fully enjoy them. Although these cigars are, for the most part, medium bodied, a Danno would simply be too much cigar for a beginner, as well as for a good number of occasional cigar smokers.
Note: Online availability is limited, so you may have to pick one up at an authorized Nestor Miranda cigar retailer.
