Nording is a line of cigars made by Rocky Patel for the famous pipe maker,
Erik Nording. The cigar is made in Honduras with Honduran and Nicaraguan
filler tobaccos, a Mexican
binder, and a Costa Rican
wrapper. And no, the cigar does not contain any pipe tobacco. The Robusto
size that I smoked had a
ring gauge of 52, and was 5 ½ inches in length from the tip of the pigtail on the head to the foot (closer to 5 ¼ inches long from head to foot).
Flavor
The Nording Robusto was a medium bodied cigar, which left hints of pepper on my palate, along with a somewhat bitter and dry aftertaste. An average tasting stogie at best, and not much better than some of Rocky's other brands like
Cruz Real and
Nicarao. Rocky Patel makes and markets a lot of cigars, and not all of them can be winners.
Draw and Construction
My Nording Robusto had a somewhat loose draw, and a few veins were visible on the wrapper. However, the cigar had an even burn for the most part, and held a nice long ash. No relights were required, but I did touch up the burn a couple of times to keep it perfectly even. The cigar was pretty consistent during the hour that it took to smoke it down to two inches remaining.Value
Nording cigars are not the most expensive Rocky Patel cigars, but I don't think they are worth $4.40 per stick. A box of 25 Robustos sells for around $110. If you like any cigar made by Rocky Patel, then these would be a decent value. However, there are better tasting cigars on the market for about half the price of a Nording. A cigar by Rocky Patel that I can recommend is
Conuco, which tastes great and costs less. Pass on the Nording.
