Padilla Habano cigars are a line of boutique cigars from Ernesto Padilla that are made in Nicaragua with a blend of Cuban-seed tobaccos, all grown in Nicaragua. These cigars are completely different from the Padilla Series 68 cigars previously reviewed on this website, and are made in a different factory in a different country. The Churchill size that I smoked for this review measured seven inches long with a ring gauge of 50.

Flavor

The Padilla Habano Churchill started off as a medium bodied smoke, having a very satisfying sweet and spicy flavor. After about 10 to 15 minutes, most (but not all) of the sweetness began to fade, while the spice started to moderate, but not to the same degree as the sweetness. After about 30 minutes, the cigar progressed to more of a medium-to-full bodied smoke, having a rich tobacco flavor with still a nice hint of spice. The cigar was enjoyable down to the last couple of inches, and I was very pleased with this line of Padilla cigars, as compared to the Series 68 that is made in Honduras. The flavor was just good enough to earn my four-star rating.

Draw and Construction

The Padilla Habano was very well made, had a great look and feel, a relatively even burn, and a great draw. The cigar required one touch-up light after about 45 minutes, but needed a relight at about the 55-minute mark, with just over 3 inches remaining. I continued to smoke the cigar down to two inches remaining, with a total smoke time of approximately one hour and 20 minutes.

Value

Padilla Habano Churchill cigars are a very good value at around $4 to $5 per stick, depending if purchased by the box, in a 5-pack, or as a single. Being one of the smaller and less widely known boutique brands, make sure to check the prices at several vendors when comparing prices online. Again, these cigars are a very good value, and should appeal to most advanced beginners as well as experienced cigar smokers. Give them a try!
