Arganese CL3 Robusto Cigar

Gene Arganese started his own cigar business back in 2005. Arganese CL3 Robusto cigars are Dominican puros, made in the Dominican Republic entirely with Dominican tobaccos. The CL3 stands for Corojo Ligero times 3, meaning that these cigars contain three times as much ligero tobacco as "normal" cigars. Ligero tobacco leaves are those at the top of the tobacco plant, which are typically richer tasting and more potent than the other leaves. The CL3 is only available in two sizes, the other being a Torpedo. The Robusto being reviewed here measures 5 inches long with a ring gauge of 50.

Flavor

The CL3 Robusto started off with a rich full tobacco flavor with just about the right amount of sweet spice. Not too much spice, but noticeable. The flavor didn't change a whole lot throughout the duration of the smoke, but remained enjoyable and was never harsh, bitter, or overpowering. This is not a cigar for beginners, but experienced smokers who are looking for a full and rich cigar that is potent, but not overly powerful, will not be disappointed.

Draw and Construction

The Arganese CL3 cigar was well made and had a great draw and even burn. The ash was somewhat flaky, and did not hold on for too long, but the cigar's medium length ash was still acceptable. The cigar did not require any relights or touchups, and smoked for about 45 minutes down to two inches remaining.

Value

At this writing, the online price of $50 for a box of 20 Arganese CL3 Robustos can only be described as a steal. The CL3 is a top quality cigar made with top quality Dominican tobaccos, and if purchased by the box, the average price is only $2.50 per stick! Some may rate a cigar higher if its flavor changes a few times during the smoke, but I see nothing wrong with a cigar that may be less complex, but tastes great from start to finish. It's like a certain concept cigar that attempts to capture the "sweet spot" of a cigar's flavor for just a short time, but the CL3 delivers a rich consistent flavor from start to finish in a full sized stick. Try a box!

Great cigar, great deal, Member Baltimore_Tool

Picked-up ten of these from Famous Smoke Shop prior to the review. Had one straight from the delivery and it was a great smoke - strong but smooth from beginning to end! If had been warmer outside last evening, I would have nubbed it. I gave several out to friends today and will enjoy the remainder after they sit in the humidor for a while.
