The Sosa Robusto Natural cigar is also called the Sosa Wavell. It is a 50 ring gauge by 4 3/4 inch size cigar. For those who like a little history, one of the largest cigar producers in Cuba back in the 1920’s was Don Juan Sosa. As we all know, many of the cigar families in Cuba left during the revolutionary times of the late 1950’s and early 1960's. The Sosa’s were no exception, and they started up an operation in Miami. Sosa cigars are no longer made in Miami, but are now produced by the Fuente factory in the Dominican Republic. The wrapper on the natural cigar is an Ecuadorian-Sumatran seed leaf, while the binder and filler tobaccos are Dominican.

Flavor and Aroma

The wrapper was slightly sweet and the aroma very light. The flavor was very consistent with no spice at all. There was a distinct pine nut taste, and despite some minor construction problems, the cigar smoked very cool. The aroma became more woodsy as I smoked it, and it lasted a full 1 hour and 15 minutes, cool to the last 1 inch.

Draw and Construction

The wrapper of this cigar is a brown to reddish brown and very rustic looking with lots of veins. This is a firm stick with a slightly uneven burn. It generates lots of smoke and gives you a light grey ash. After the first 1 inch the burn evened out. The draw was average. About half way through, the wrapper split open, but the cigar continued to burn even. The ash dropped off at about 2”, which is about when the wrapper split.

Value

You can get a box of 25 cigars for about $90, which puts this at $3.60/stick price. Any time you can get a good smoke for that price, it is a good value. Before I read up on the production of this cigar, I thought that it reminded me of the Fuente Hemingway. Now that I know it was made at the Fuente factory, I am not surprised. A good stick at a good price.
