The Deseo Zen is a medium cigar produced by Tony Borhani and made in Nicaragua. Deseo means ‘desire’ in Spanish. The wrapper is Nicaraguan, the binder is from Ecuador and the filler is a mix of Costa Rican, Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Deseo Zen is a Robusto size or shape which measures 5” x 50 ring gauge. Tony Borhani is also the maker of ‘Bahai’ cigars.
Flavor and Aroma
This is a decent medium bodied cigar that has lost of earthy flavors and goes well with good cup of black coffee which also comes through in the taste of the cigar. The aroma has some fresh woodchip burning notes as well as mild spice. I am not sure how the mixture of the various tobaccos work in this cigar but I know that it is a pleasant aroma and may even have some floral hints. The taste is very consistent and fairly cool down to the last inch. The draw is just slightly restrictive and needed a little help from my cigar spike to open it up about half way through.Draw and Construction
This is a well made cigar with a nice wrapper and it suited for any type of cutter you prefer. It is firm to the touch and does not crackle when you squeeze it. No aging required on these as they are great right out of the box. The burn is even, the ash holds for a little over an inch, but I did have to re-light each of the 3 cigars that I smoked for this review at least twice.Value
These cigars are a good value. I got a 5-pack for $14 which included shipping, and a box of 20 goes for $64. That will give you a pretty good premium cigar for around $3 a piece. Actually, ordering a 5-pack turned out to be cheaper than the box so it is a very good way to try these out.
