The Don Tomas Allegro Maduro is quite a long name for a cigar but with so many brands to choose from you have to be somewhat distinctive so that people will remember you. This cigar lives up to it’s long name and long well deserved reputation of the Don Tomas brand. The size of the cigar was the Robusto which measures 5 1/2” x 50 ring gauge. This is another great cigar from the folks at the General Cigar Company. It comes packed in a nice black aluminum tube lined with cedar and cork on the tube cap to guarantee freshness.

Flavor and Aroma

This yet another maduro cigar that will surprise you with how light and smooth it is. This is very similar to another General Cigar brand, the Macanudo Hyde Park Maduro. The Maduro wrapper gives the cigar a touch of sweetness. I smoked mine outside after a great meal and the aroma of the cigar mixed well with the smoke coming from my chimney. This really complimented the woody flavor and aroma of the cigar. This only lasted about 30 minutes because my cigar went out. The cigar flavors got just a tad spicier after the re-light and remained so until the end.

Draw and Construction

This cigar is rolled tight and was very firm to the touch. It has a very easy draw and toasted well and lit easily. Unfortunately, it did not stay lit for very long. About 1” into the smoke it went out. I had to knock the ash off to re-light it. The cigar smoked easily all the way down below the 1” mark. The cigar re-lit easily and I was back to smoking. I have to also say that of the half dozen of these that I have smoked previously, the one I decided to smoke for my review was the most disappointing. This cigar is made in Honduras with Honduran and Nicaraguan filler. The wrapper is a US Connecticut Maduro and the binder is also from Honduras. The re-light was successful and the cigar smoked the rest of the way without any other problems and a perfectly even burn from start to finish.

Value

This is a good premium cigar and a good value. As I said, I have smoked at least a half dozen and will probably keep them in my humidor even though I had one that went out on me. I really enjoyed the aroma of this cigar even more than the taste. I found online prices for two types of presentations for the Don Tomas Allegro Maduro. The cigar always comes in a nice tube and is packaged in boxes of 20 and 30. The box of 20 sells for $61.99 and box of 30 for $92.99 which is little over $3.00 per cigar. This is actually a great value for a good premium smoke.
