Tempus cigars were released in May 2008 by Alec Bradley and the Fabrica de Tabacos Raices Cubanas in Honduras. I have smoked several different sizes but chose the Genesis version which is a Corona
size cigar with a
ring gauge of 42 and length of 5 ½ . The
wrapper is Honduran, the
binder from Indonesia, and the
filler a mix of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco. I would consider it a very medium smoking cigar.
Flavor and Aroma
Lately I have been examining my cigars much more carefully before cutting them and prior to lighting. I noticed that it had a decent sweet rich smell that hopefully meant there was more on the way. I thought I might have even tasted or smelled coffee when I punched the end with a 7mm
cutter. Because of the small ring gauge I decided to dip this stogie in a bit of scotch I was drinking. The taste of the cigar married well with the oakiness of the scotch. As I hoped the aroma and flavor of the cigar prior to lighting was intensified during the smoking. Just before the end of the smoke the cigar got real spicy but overall the flavor was very constant.
Construction
This stick is quite rough in appearance and a little spongy to the touch. The draw was easy and it burned perfectly even through out. At about the half way point the draw became more restricted and I felt that it was due to the fact that I used a small
punch to open it up. This cigar would have smoked better and fuller if I had used a
double bladed guillotine instead. The ash fell at 1 ½ and 31 minutes of smoking time. The cigar finally went out with only a little more than an inch left to the stick leaving the total smoking time at 75 minutes.
Value
This cigar is priced around $6 per stick as a single purchase, and I believe an excellent value. Boxes of 20 are priced around $112, which lowers the price and increases your value (of course). I really enjoyed the smoke.
