The Dominico Maduro Torpedo is a bundle cigar produced by Carlos Torano Cigars. They are sold in bundles of 25 for approximately $40.00, which makes the individual price $1.60 per stick. It is generally considered a medium to full-bodied cigar however I found it to be more on the mild to medium side. The
size or shape of this cigar is a torpedo and has a
ring gauge
of 52 and a length of 6 ¼.
Flavor
Right from the start this is a nice tasting cigar with an immediate chocolate flavor and aroma. About 1 into the cigar the chocolate was joined by coffee and at the mid-point I could sense some oatmeal, just like the kind of taste you find in an oatmeal-raisin cookie. The flavor was fairly consistent until the middle of the cigar and then problems with the cigar construction ended the smoke.Draw and Construction
The Dominico has a dark maduro
wrapper, Indonesian
binder and Piloto Cubano Dominican
filler. They are made by Carlos Torano in one of their factories in the Dominican Republic. The Dominico is a tightly rolled cigar. The draw was also tight and I had to clip it twice, more than ¼ to get it to the point where I could draw enough to light it. The foot toasted nicely and started to burn evenly. At the 1 mark one side was burning faster than the other and continued that way until the ash fell off at 2 ¼. Then the cigar went out. I re-lit it but without success. I had to use a large guillotine cuter to even out the cigar and then light it again. We are now at the halfway point of this smoke and already one hour has gone by. I believe that the slow burn is a result of the cigar being rolled too tight. I never could get it to light again properly and just put it down with at least 2 ½ to go.
Value
A $1.60 a stick it is a decent value for a long fill cigar however with the tight draw and the problems keeping it lit this cigar was more trouble than I had expected. I may want to try their Connecticut Shade wrapper at a later date to compare. Perhaps this is a cigar that would benefit from aging in your humidor which is something I will do and after a few months write a follow up review. I think the price point is good and that this cigar has some potential being a good smoke for under $2.
