Prida is a mixed
filler
cigar distributed in the U.S. by SACS Cigars. Their cigars are made by Don Sergio Cuevas at Tabacalera Cuevas y Hermanos, Valle del Cibao, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Don Sergio came to the Dominican Republic from the Pinar-del-Rio area of Cuba and started a cigar factory in the Cuban cigar making tradition. The Prida Corona is 5 ¾ in length and has a
ring gauge of 43.
Flavor
This is a good cigar for a short/mixed fill. The taste is a little leathery with just a bit of wood flavor but very faint. There was one other flavor there that I could not place. Then I had a vision of me as a kid with a mouth full of pennies (dont ask) and that was the other taste. I know that might not sound very good but the cigar is a good average smoke. Aroma is not anything special but is does smell like a mild cigar.Draw and Construction
I was surprised to find out that this was mostly a short fill cigar. The cigar was firm, lit easily and the entire foot glowed without any trouble. The draw is easy as well. The
wrapper is a naturally light tobacco and looks like a Connecticut Shade, the
binder was a bit darker and the filler was a mixed bag of light and dark cuts. I contacted the distributor to find out exactly what tobacco they are using but I think we can assume that it is all Dominican. You will see from the photos that the filler has some larger cuts of tobacco and the wrapper and binder look like good quality leaves. I did my dissecting thing on this one to see how well it was made. For a mixed fill, it is one of the better ones. If you use a punch you be certain not to get any little bits of tobacco in your mouth during the smoke. I smoked three of these to write the review and on two of them the ash held on for 3. The entire cigar took about 1 hour to smoke.
Value
How can you go wrong with a decent smoking cigar for only 80 cents. This was one of the better short/mixed fill cigars that I have smoked and I generally do not smoke any short fills. This is a good value for what you are getting. Also keep in mind that this is the same factory that makes the Yumuri 1492 which is a top rated premium cigar.
