The Gurkha Doble Maduro (correct spelling) is a medium-to-full flavored cigar that measures 6 inches long with a ring gauge of 52. When purchased in sampler packs, expect to pay between $5 and $6 per stick. As usual, if you can find a single cigar to purchase, expect to pay more. Gurkha is considered to be a boutique cigar brand which caters to the middle-to-high end market. Each cigar comes individually wrapped in cedar.
Flavor
This cigar is so smooth that it doesnt seem to taste as full flavored as it really is. I was not disappointed with the taste, but I wasnt overly impressed, either. Based on the appearance of the cigar, I was expecting much more. It wasnt until I smoked a different cigar that was much milder, right after smoking the Gurkha, that I realized that the Gurkha Doble Maduro was more than just a medium flavored stick. This cigar may be a little too strong for a beginner, but an average cigar smoker should be able to appreciate the Doble Maduro.
Draw & Construction
This cigar is very well constructed, and draws easily. The burn is even, and since I smoked several of these cigars on previous occasions, I can report that the cigar is consistent. The oily maduro wrapper is almost chocolate in color, and the appearance and aroma of the cigar are both very rich.
Value
Although modestly priced for a Gurkha, this is still not an inexpensive cigar. For the price, I was expecting more, probably because I had smoked other Gurkhas and was pleasantly surprised. This was not the case with the Doble Maduro. Although this cigar is not bad by any means, it fell short of delighting me. I enjoy smoking cigars with maduro wrappers, but have enjoyed others that are priced a bit less. I recommend purchasing a sampler pack of these cigars before buying in quantity, so you can decide for yourself if they are worth the price.
